Private School ESSA Eligibility

Invitation to Participate in Federal Programs

Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), private school students may be eligible for federal education services under Section 1117 of Title I, Part A and Section 8501 of Title VIII. In addition, ESSA requires that timely and meaningful consultation occur between the Local Educational Agency (LEA) and private school officials prior to any decision that affects the opportunities of eligible private school children, teachers, and other educational personnel to participate in programs under ESSA. If your private school is located in Henderson County and you would like to participate in a meeting during which you will have an opportunity to learn about the benefits, eligibility requirements, and rules for private school participation in these federal programs, please contact:

  • Title I-A, Improving the Academic Achievement of Disadvantaged Students – Basic Programs
  • Title I-C, Education of Migratory Children
  • Title II-A, Professional Development for Teachers, Principals, and Others
  • Title III-A, Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient Students
  • Title IV-A, Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants (if applicable)
  • Title IV-B, 21st Century Community Learning Centers (if applicable)
