HCPS Weather Update: Closed for Students Monday, February 2, 2026 (Optional Workday)
Good evening,
This is Mark Garrett, Superintendent of Henderson County Public Schools, calling with an update regarding tomorrow’s schedule. Please listen all the way to the end, as this message is a bit lengthy due to the information being shared.
I am sure this is the least surprising phone call of your afternoon after we finally received a significant snow that so many have been anticipating. While it is too powdery for a good snowman, I am hopeful that our students and families have been able to find a great hill or two to sled down and some hot chocolate to warm back with up after enjoying the outdoors.
As you all know, the roads are not safe for travel so this is your official word that Henderson County Public Schools will be closed for students on Monday, February 2, 2026. It will be an optional workday for staff.
I am sure some of you may wonder why we are not designating it as a remote learning day. By designating tomorrow as a no student day, this will allow our teachers an opportunity to update their choice boards for any additional remote learning days that we may need. Also, since the state only allows five remote learning days per school year, this will allow us flexibility with the remaining two days. Thankfully, we are still in good shape on our instructional hours for this year, meaning that we do not have to worry about adding any student make up days at this time.
We miss seeing our students and being together in our schools, and we can’t wait to welcome our HCPS family back in person. Until then, we want everyone to stay safe and warm.
We will be in touch again should the additional weather bring additional schedule changes. Thanks for bearing with us as we deal with the first significant winter weather season in quite a few years.

Estoy seguro de que esta es la llamada menos sorprendente de la tarde, después de que finalmente recibimos la nevada significativa que tantos esperaban. Si bien la nieve es demasiado ligera para hacer un buen muñeco de nieve, espero que nuestros estudiantes y sus familias hayan encontrado alguna colina para deslizarse en trineo y un buen chocolate caliente para entrar en calor después de disfrutar del aire libre.
Como todos saben, las carreteras no son seguras para viajar, por lo que les informamos oficialmente que las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Henderson estarán cerradas para los estudiantes el lunes 2 de febrero de 2026. Será un día laboral opcional para el personal.
Seguramente algunos se preguntarán por qué no estamos implementando otro día de aprendizaje a distancia. Al designar mañana como un día sin clases para los estudiantes, esto permitirá a nuestros maestros actualizar sus plataformas de aprendizaje para cualquier día adicional de aprendizaje a distancia que podamos necesitar. Además, dado que el estado sólo permite cinco días de aprendizaje a distancia por año escolar, esto nos brindará flexibilidad con los dos días restantes. Afortunadamente, todavía estamos bien con respecto a las horas de instrucción de este año, lo que significa que no tenemos que preocuparnos por agregar días de recuperación para los estudiantes en este momento.
Extrañamos ver a nuestros estudiantes y estar juntos en nuestras escuelas, y estamos ansiosos por dar la bienvenida de nuevo a nuestra familia de HCPS en persona. Hasta entonces, queremos que todos se mantengan seguros y abrigados.
