Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS) is excited to announce Sloan Neuburger as the new principal of Rugby Middle School.
Ms. Neuburger is no stranger to Rugby Middle School. Currently serving as assistant principal, she has been an integral part of the schoolâs recent success and brings continuity, strong relationships, and a deep understanding of the Raider community into her new role. She has played a key role in strengthening systems, supporting teachers, and improving student outcomes. During her tenure, the school has sustained strong academic growth, improved staff retention, and earned high marks on Teacher Working Conditions surveys.
âSloan Neuburger is an exceptional leader who understands what it takes to support both students and staff,â said Superintendent Mark R. Garrett. âShe builds meaningful relationships, leads with energy and purpose, and keeps students at the center of every decision. The Rugby Middle Raiders are gaining a principal who will continue to move the school forward in meaningful ways.â
Since joining HCPS, Ms. Neuburger has served in several impactful roles. Prior to her work at Rugby Middle, she was assistant principal at Sugarloaf Elementary School and a graduation coach at North Henderson High School, where she led initiatives to improve attendance, increase graduation rates, and expand student opportunities through mentoring, college visits, and academic support programs.
A passionate advocate for student leadership, Ms. Neuburger is well-versed in the Leader in Me framework and has led professional development to support its implementation across schools. She is known for her strong communication skills, collaborative leadership style, and commitment to creating a positive and inclusive school environment.

Ms. Neuburger holds a Bachelorâs degree from Michigan State University and a Masterâs degree in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University.
