HENDERSONVILLE, NC (April 2, 2026) — Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS) proudly announces Matthew Rollins, Agriculture teacher at East Henderson High School, as the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year.

A passionate educator with a proven track record of success, Mr. Rollins has transformed and expanded the agricultural program at East Henderson High School in just four years. After a successful tenure in upstate South Carolina, he brought his expertise and vision to East Henderson, where he has significantly increased student engagement and opportunities in agricultural education.

Under Mr. Rollins’ leadership, enrollment in the East Henderson agriculture program has surged, leading to the addition of a second agriculture teacher. He has also broadened the scope of the program by introducing Agriculture Mechanics, giving students hands-on experience in welding and farm equipment operation, while strengthening offerings in animal and plant science. This diversification provides students with a more comprehensive pathway to explore careers in agriculture.

“Mr. Rollins has made a lasting impact on agricultural education in our district,” said Scott Moore, HCPS Director of CTE. “Through his leadership, students are gaining valuable skills, expanding their interests, and discovering real pathways to future careers.”

Mr. Rollins has also built strong connections with the local agricultural community, securing significant support through donations of funding, materials, and labor. These partnerships have enhanced facilities for animal science projects and expanded opportunities for hands-on learning. Most recently, East Henderson’s FFA chapter was awarded the 2025–2026 Tractor Supply Co. Grants for Growing grant, which will fund the construction of a cold-frame shade house. This addition will enhance hands-on learning in horticulture, allowing students to grow a wider variety of plants while gaining real-world experience in plant production, greenhouse management, and agricultural business practices.

“My time at East has been an incredible journey, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to ignite a passion for agriculture in my students. I’m fortunate to work in a community with such supportive local and district administrators who make it possible for me to do what I love every single day—helping students grow into future leaders in agriculture,” said Mr. Rollins.

Through his leadership, students are actively encouraged to participate in competitions and real-world experiences across the state. He consistently seeks out new opportunities for students to develop skills, explore career pathways, and represent East Henderson at a high level.

“Mr. Rollins has taken an already strong program and elevated it to new heights,” said East Henderson Principal Brandon Scott. “His commitment to students, innovation in the classroom, and connection to the community make him incredibly deserving of this recognition. We are so thankful he is an Eagle!”

As the HCPS CTE Teacher of the Year, Rollins will represent the district at NCCAT’s statewide competition in Cullowhee, where he will collaborate with other top CTE educators from across North Carolina.
