The spotlight will shine bright on Mr. WHHS: Disco Fever as the West Henderson High School DECA Chapter hosts its 4th Annual Mr. WHHS Pageant on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the West Henderson High School auditorium.
This year’s groovy theme, Disco Fever, promises a night full of music, laughter, and heartfelt community spirit, all for a great cause. The all-male pageant raises funds for families within the Henderson County Public Schools community who are facing significant medical challenges or hardships. Each of the 38 contestants has committed to raising at least $200 to participate.
Families are nominated by HCPS employees and selected by members of the WHHS DECA chapter. Contestants will compete in themed “wears” and talent performances, showcasing creativity and personality in true disco style. Awards include Families’ Choice, Mr. Money Maker, Mr. Sexy Legs, People’s Choice, Mr. Congeniality, and the ultimate Mr. WHHS title.
Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online through the West Henderson High School website or at the door beginning at 6:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the show begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.
Meet the Families We’re Honoring
The Glynn Family
Liz Glynn works for Henderson County Public Schools. She and her husband, Jeramy, have three adult children, Nic, Josh, and Kacee, all HCPS graduates.
Liz was diagnosed with colon cancer in October 2023. She underwent radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery from January through August 2024. Later that year, the cancer spread to her liver, requiring another surgery in December at Duke Hospital. She enjoyed several months of good health, but in July 2025 scans revealed the cancer had spread to her lungs. She is currently receiving chemotherapy and may undergo additional treatments at Duke.
The ongoing medical expenses, including copays, prescriptions, and travel, have been a challenge, but Liz remains focused on healing and living fully. Her faith is strong, and she and Jeramy are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support from their children, family, coworkers, friends, church, and community.
The Lord Family
Annah Lord is the wife of John and the mother of Caroline, an 8th grader at HMS, and Penny, a 6th grader at HMS. She has served HCPS for 15 years, spending most of her career teaching at Dana Elementary before becoming Assistant Principal at East Henderson High School.
In fall 2024, Annah was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma of the pleura, a rare cancer requiring treatment at Duke. She underwent intensive in-patient chemotherapy through the fall and winter of 2024–25 and continues to receive chemo every three weeks. While sarcoma is incurable, treatment has helped keep the tumors in check, allowing her to keep working and enjoying family life.
Travel to Durham for treatment, along with property repairs from Hurricane Helene, has brought financial challenges. Still, Annah and her family remain resilient and grateful for the encouragement, love, and support of the HCPS community. They are humbled to be part of this year’s Mr. WHHS Pageant.
The Robles-Velez Family
Lyli is the daughter of Crystal Robles and Jose Velez and is the oldest of four children. Her siblings are students at West Henderson High School, Rugby Middle School, and Etowah Elementary. Lyli was born with Cerebral Palsy and spastic quadriplegia. She has faced many medical challenges and surgeries in her young life, including having a rod placed in her back and most recently having surgery for a twisted small intestine. Lyli has constant muscle contractions, is fed through a G-tube and is wheelchair bound. Even though she is non-verbal, Lyli communicates with her eye gaze and beautiful smile. Despite her physical challenges, Lyli is a spunky, strong, and joyful child who inspires everyone around her.
The family faces ongoing expenses for Lyli’s care, equipment, and therapies, along with transportation challenges that make everyday life more difficult. Funds raised will help ease those burdens and the family is thankful for the love and support shown by the community. Lyli’s strength and joyful spirit continue to inspire everyone who knows her.
This year’s panel of judges includes Ryan Anderson, Jodie Baker, Caroline Galvan, and Officer Steve Ridgeway, all WHHS faculty and staff members.
