HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 12, 2023) â Henderson County Public Schools is proud to announce that one of our students is a Grand Prize Winner of the 2023 Optimum and TelevisaUnivision Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest.
Citlally, an eleventh-grade student at North Henderson High School, received a $3,000 cash scholarship for writing an essay in 500 words or less about a person, group of people, or cultural experience that has helped her connect to Hispanic culture and what it means to her. This is a National Contest where Citlally competed against over 1,000 entries from across the country.
âWe are proud of Citlally for being named the Hispanic Heritage Month essay winner. She is a student who definitely stands out with her words, and in her actions,â said Superintendent Mark R. Garrett. âThe committee made an excellent choice.â
On Thursday, December 7, Optimum presented the $3,000 check to Citlally in front of her family, teachers, friends, and district leadership. Optimum and TelevisaUnivision will host a live virtual event celebrating the winners, moderated by News 12âs Blaise Gomez, on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Read more in Optimumâs press release.
