September Rewind: We’re excited to share 10 moments that made this an incredible month for our HCPS family! Superintendent Mark R. Garrett helping three kindergarteners put on their new t-shirts.

  1. “Class of 2036” T-Shirt Distribution: HCPS continued a heartwarming district tradition to provide each kindergartener with a special commemorative t-shirt, thanks to our community partners.
  2. Attendance Awareness Month: School attendance is a critical component of ensuring the success of each and every student in Henderson County Public Schools. #EveryPieceMatters
  3. Interactive Be Pro Be Proud Truck at Innovative High School: The experience allowed students to be hands-on with 17 different trades to include welding, plumbing, electrical work, heavy machinery, and more.A student wearing a Virtual Reality headset at the lineman station in the Be Pro Be Proud truck.
  4. HCPS’ 2023 Exceptional Children’s “Educator of Excellence”: Jennifer Langdon, an EC teacher at Upward Elementary School has been named the district representative for North Carolina’s Exceptional Children’s Educator of Excellence.
  5. International Literacy Day: There was a guest reader for every classroom at Upward Elementary to celebrate reading!
  6. Sue Moon, a North Henderson High School educator and venerated coach has been recognized for extraordinary service and lifetime achievement by the NCHSAA and the WNC Mountain Athletic Amateur Athletic Club.
  7. New Playgrounds: This year, all 13 of our elementary schools will be receiving playground upgrades.Over two dozen students playing on the playground at Upward Elementary School.
  8. Listos! Event: Over 200 high school students in HCPS Migrant Education and ESL programs took part in planning their futures. The all-day event included a keynote speaker, workshops with education and industry partners, and a tour of Blue Ridge Community College.
  9. Atkinson Elementary School’s Heritage Day: The school-wide field trip to Camp Pinnacle was focused on mountain traditions. Students learned about square dancing, biscuit making, quilting, beekeeping, and much more.
  10. HCPS’ Beginning Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024 Announcement: Lauren Schneider, a dedicated third-grade teacher at Edneyville Elementary School was named.A group photo of the 23 school principals, district leadership team, and five students.
