Calling Adult Mentors – Upcoming Community Meeting to Explore Launching a Student Mentorship Program

Henderson County Public Schools News

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (August 22, 2023) — Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS) is excited to announce an upcoming community meeting, aimed at exploring the establishment of a volunteer mentoring program for HCPS students.

The town-hall style meeting, scheduled for Aug. 30th, will be held at the Patton Building of Blue Ridge Community College in the Steve Wyatt Auditorium from 9 am to 10:30 am. This event is open to the public.

The inspiration for the idea came from the McNair Foundation in Rutherford County. Volunteer adult mentors meet with students individually to review things such as student grades, course selection, attendance and behavior, participation in extracurricular activities, and SAT/ACT registration.

“We believe that by uniting our community in support of our students, we unlock the ability of every child to access the guidance and encouragement they need to thrive,” said Superintendent Mark R. Garrett. “We invite all community members who share our passion for students to join us at this meeting and help shape the future of Henderson County.”
