Thirteen accomplished high school musicians from Henderson County Public Schools have been selected to the distinguished 2022 Western Region Honors Orchestra, hosted this weekend by the NC Music Educators Association.

Competition across the region is fierce, with high school students from Asheville to Greensboro auditioning for spots in just two orchestras. Under the leadership of Orchestra Directors Amanda Tant (Hendersonville High), Jennie Quinn (East Henderson High), and Tiffany King (West Henderson High), and Band Director James Phillips (Hendersonville High), 13 HCPS students will convene for the clinic experience Feb. 26-27 at Appalachian State University.

Nine HCPS students will rehearse and perform with the Repertory Orchestra on Saturday, and four HCPS students will represent Henderson County at the highest level by participating in the Honors Orchestra, a symphonic orchestra that performs repertoire at a masterworks level.

The following 9 students will rehearse and perform with the Repertory Orchestra on February 26 at 5 p.m. in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Appalachian State University:

– Eben Carson, viola (junior at East Henderson High)

– Carson Case, double bass (senior at West Henderson High)

– Aiden Chacon, cello (sophomore at Hendersonville High)

– Deepika Haywood, cello (freshman at Hendersonville High)

– Sean Maccaroni, violin (junior at Hendersonville High)

– Gabriela Magallan Aguilar, violin (junior at Hendersonville High)

– Hadley Melton, violin (junior at West Henderson High)

– Connor Poole, violin (junior at West Henderson High)

The following 4 students will perform with the Honors Orchestra on February 27 at 5 p.m. at Appalachian State University. Performing in the Honors Orchestra ensemble automatically invites the top 50% of participants to NC Honors All State Orchestra.

– RoKem Bayne, viola (sophomore at Hendersonville High)

– Luc Benjamin, trumpet (senior at Hendersonville High)

– Hailey Kasney, viola (senior at West Henderson High)

– Alexis Rubianes, violin (junior at Hendersonville High)

Congratulations to these young artists, and to their orchestra and band directors. Music Education is alive and well in Henderson County!
