In what Rugby Middle’s Athletic Director calls “one of the most competitive girls athletics seasons,” the Lady Raiders managed to clinch a full-conference sweep of the Blue Ridge Conference women’s team sports championships.

That means, in addition to achieving strong winning seasons across the board, the women’s volleyball, cross country, basketball, softball, soccer, and track teams at Rugby each snagged this year’s Blue Ridge Conference championship titles.

“COVID did not take away from the competitiveness of the season,” said Justin McKenzie, AD and Assistant Principal.

If anything, he said, the pandemic makes the titles even more impressive.

“The fact that our athletic programs were able to continue through the whole year without one team being shut down is in itself an accomplishment,” McKenzie said.

McKenzie acknowledged the self discipline and sacrifices of the student athletes this year, as they kept up with social distancing so their teams could stay healthy and training.

“In a year like this to win 6 combined conference championships, it makes me extremely proud of our student athletes and coaching staff.”

Congratulations, Lady Raiders!
