If you’re new to the kindergarten registration process, or if it’s the first time you’ve done it online, you may have some questions.

Maybe you’re wondering:

– Which documents do I need to register my child?
– When should my child’s physical exam take place?
– How do I determine which elementary school is in my home district?
– When would I be able to submit reassignment applications?

Elementary school principals will be answering these and other frequently asked questions in upcoming videos on our social media channels! Submit your questions about the kindergarten registration process in this Google Form, and tune into our district Facebook and Twitter feeds next week for videos in English and Spanish with the answers!

Here’s some more information about the upcoming online enrollment process:

We’re kicking off registration earlier than ever this year! Beginning next Tuesday, February 23, families can register new kindergarteners for the 2021-2022 school year using a convenient online registration form.

Once the enrollment form is live and accepting registrations on Feb. 23, the link to register will be shared publicly on the HCPS website, social media, and in advertisements across local online and print media.

HCPS will be enrolling children who will be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2021 beginning Feb. 23, and encourage families to use the smartphone-friendly online enrollment tool as early as possible. Earlier kindergarten registrations in February and March will allow schools to communicate important district messages leading up to the start of school, including how children can begin preparing for their first day of kindergarten while still at home!

This year, that will include early access to “Kindergarteners Can!” videos, illustrating the early childhood skills kindergarteners can be expected to use and practice daily at school. Families can receive email links to this video series, as well as school-specific orientation activities and messages this spring, when schools are able to collect guardian contact information through kindergarten registration.

When using the online enrollment form, guardians will be able to upload required documentation including proof of residency and birth certificates, indicate plans for bus transportation, notify the district of a child’s medical needs or Individual Education Plan (IEP), and more. These details about the incoming Class of 2034 give HCPS administrators more accurate numbers and logistical needs for the upcoming school year.
