Through partnerships with Flavor1st and the Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS) system, Biltmore Church will be distributing boxes of fresh produce and meat to local families in need on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020.

Flavor1st Growers & Packers reached out to Biltmore Church in early December, looking for an opportunity to donate a total of 2,000 boxes of fresh produce and meat to families with children in Western North Carolina. Biltmore Church is collaborating with schools in both Buncombe and Henderson counties to ensure the food will benefit families who need it most. Flavor1st employees volunteered to pack all the 20lb boxes with fresh fruit, vegetables, and fully cooked chicken and sausage from the Flavor1st farm, which daily distributes thousands of food boxes across the Southeast.

“Food insecurity is a challenge for many families throughout the year, and the holidays – especially this year – can be especially difficult,” said Superintendent Dr. John Bryant. “We are extremely grateful to Biltmore Church and Flavor1st for their generous donation of food and volunteer hours to collaboratively meet the needs of our students and their families.”

In Henderson County, Biltmore Church members will assist HCPS staff in distributing 1,100 of the boxes to school families at 9 school sites and along 2 bus routes on Dec. 17. Boxes will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.

For the health and safety of HCPS staff and Biltmore Church volunteers, individuals will be required to wear face coverings when picking up boxes on school campuses and at bus route locations.

Thanks to supplemental funding from the Henderson County Education Foundation, HCPS Child Nutrition Department and Maintenance staff will be operating the following food box pickup locations and bus routes:
