Students
Below, you will see the HCPS AI Guidelines for Students. Students are receiving these guidelines to assist them with safe and proper usage of AI in the school setting. Administrators and teachers are being trained on the use of AI in the classroom and providing student access as appropriate. HCPS is committed to following usage and age requirements with AI tools used with students.
Helpful Resources and Reminders for Using AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are exciting new technologies that can help you learn, create, and explore ideas in amazing ways – from helping you brainstorm for projects to explaining tricky concepts in different ways. As our district begins to embrace these innovative tools, it’s important to use them responsibly and safely.
Remember: never share personal information like your full name, address, phone number, birthday, or any details that could identify you or others when using AI tools (see PII chart below). Think of AI as a helpful learning assistant, not a replacement for your own thinking and creativity – use it to support your learning, not to do your work for you. Always check with your teacher about when and how to use AI tools for assignments, and give credit when AI helps you with your work, just like you would cite any other source (See AI Acceptable Use Scale below).
Below, you will find currently approved AI resources (for on-campus tools and devices), guidelines for responsible use, and tips to help you become a smart, ethical user of these powerful technologies. Let’s learn and grow together in this exciting digital age!
