Educators and Staff
Below, you will see the HCPS AI Guidelines for Educators. There will also be guidelines for students and parents which will provide resources to assist them with understanding safe and proper usage of AI in the school setting. If you have not completed the modules in the HCPS Staff AI Hub in Google Classroom (new staff and current staff who did not complete the training), you will need to complete it next year. This training is required based on Policy Code: 3220 Technology in the Educational Program and Policy Code: 3225/4312/7320 Technology Responsible Use. Please familiarize yourself with the requirements found in these policies. HCPS schools are committed to following usage and age requirements with AI tools used with students.
Helpful Resources and Reminders for Using AI
There are many resources designed to assist you when using AI professionally or with students. It is important to remember to avoid entering any PII (Personally Identifiable Information) into AI chatbots or tools. Tools which can currently be used with students, tools where staff can use the “Login with Google” button, and other information and reminders can be found below.
We have also placed a document with all of the resources from the 24-25 AI staff course in the Curriculum & Instruction folder in HCPS Resources in Google Drive. (Must have a Google account from HCPS to access.)
It is important to help students think of AI as a helpful learning assistant, not a replacement for their thinking and creativity – to use it to support their learning, not to do their work for them. Students should always check with their teacher about when and how to use AI tools for assignments, and give credit when AI helps them with their work, just like they would cite any other source. The HCPS AI Acceptable Use Scale can be found below.
