Molly Wright Named HCPS Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teacher of the Year

Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS) is proud to recognize Molly Wright, a Math AIG teacher at Rugby Middle School, as the HCPS Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teacher of the Year.

“Ms. Wright is an exceptional educator who enhances the outcomes of every person around her. She builds excellent relationships with her students and ensures they achieve at levels beyond expectations,” said Dr. John McDaris, Principal of Rugby Middle School. “Her approach to teaching and learning inspires her students to think critically and  find joy in solving challenging problems in math and beyond.”

At Rugby Middle, Ms. Wright’s leadership extends far beyond her classroom. She is an active member of the school’s Lighthouse Team, serves as one of the MathCounts coaches, and leads as a club sponsor. In addition, she serves on planning committees and plays a key role in each of Rugby’s collaborative math teams (PLCs), helping to guide instruction and foster professional growth among her colleagues.

As recognition of her achievement, Ms. Wright will attend the NC Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) State Mathematics Conference in November 2025, where she will have the opportunity to collaborate with educators from across the state. In addition, she will receive a one-year membership to NCCTM.

“Ms. Wright’s leadership in mathematics, her drive to continue her personal learning, and her commitment to ensuring her students grow exponentially every year they are at Rugby is to be commended,” said Dr. Shannon Marlowe, HCPS Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. “We are so fortunate to have Ms. Wright to represent the best of the best in secondary math education in HCPS.”
