Battle of the Books
Are you in 4th or 5th grade? Do you love to read? You are invited to join the GMES Battle of the Books team!
What Is Battle Of The Books?
Battle of the Books is a program for kids to further their interest in reading. Students read books from a list established by the state Battle of the Books committees and then compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books.
Our regional BoB competition usually occurs in March or April.
How Do I Join?
If you are interested, start reading! Students will join a Google Classroom for Battle of the Books at the beginning of the school year. They will take Kahoots and practice as they read. There are only 12 spots available on the team, so effort will be taken into account! We do prefer for students to read all the books on the book list.
Students will need to provide $10 each for the purchase of a team t-shirt.
We will begin once-weekly practices starting Monday, January 13th so that we can be ready for our county competition! All practices will be from 3:00-3:45, and all students will need to be picked up by car or go to PSPM after practice (no bus).
What Do I Read?
To know which books to read, please take a look at the North Carolina School Library Media Association’s 2024-2025 Elementary Battle of the Books booklist.
We will have all of these books available for check-out in the Media Center. Interested students are encouraged to purchase their own copies if they like, but we will make sure each team member has access.
