We will be celebrating Veterans Day on November 10th with a Field of Flags, where each person is recognized and will receive a flag in their honor, placed on the field. If you would like to have someone recognized and raise money for disabled veterans, please follow the link: https://support.dav.org/participant/EHHS. You may also share this link with friends and family so that we can recognize as many veterans as possible within our community and families. We will be collecting names until November 5th.

Thank you for your support, and thank you to all those who served!

Last Week in Eagle Country

East Mentors with HIL GEM students
On Tuesday, our crew of GEM alumnae and other volunteers traveled to Hillandale Elementary School to speak with the elementary Girls Empowered group. The East students were asked questions about what high school is like as well as questions the elementary schoolers have always been curious about. It was a great time for fellowship and mentorship, especially since many of the East mentors attended Hillandale as elementary students.

On Thursday, October 30th, East’s SGA hosted its annual Trunk or Treat for the community. Over 30 trunks were present, providing tons of creative trunk designs, tons of candy, and lots of fun for our guests!  Thank you to all of the groups, clubs, teams, community organizations, and businesses that helped to make this event special!

After Trunk or Treat, the FRMS and EHHS orchestras put on their annual Halloween Spooktacular concert for the community. Students performed lots of spooky Halloween music, the video transitions were fun and nostalgic for audience members, the costume parade for littles was adorable, and Mrs. Quinn’s costume changes for every song were amazing as usual!  We are so proud of the orchestra program Mrs. Quinn has built at both East and FRMS.

The football team was joined by HHS cheerleaders, as Atkinson is a feeder school for both East and Hendersonville, and both teams had a blast hosting a morning similar to a pep rally since the students worked so hard to achieve their goal!

When Halloween’s on a school day, it’s a fun excuse to be silly and dress up.  Lots of Eagles went all out with their costumes – many coordinating with their friends and coworkers. We loved to see the creative costume ideas roaming the halls all day long!

Our advanced theater students traveled to Shelby High School both Friday and Saturday to compete in the regional NCTC theater competition. The students performed on a show called “Life and Death in an Empty Hallway” by Christopher Evans and did an outstanding job competing against a dozen other schools from our region. Students involved in this performance were Katie Thompson, Kenzie Ward, James Curtis, Julie Smithson, Audrey Flanigan, Estrella Martinez, Alexis Gish, Samantha Sherlin, and Bella Barr.  These Eagles took home three awards this year:

  • Excellence in Symbolism
  • Excellence in Trio Monologue Performance – Estrella Martinez, Julie Smithson & Zocea Highfield
  • Excellence in Acting – James Curtis

We are so proud of the hard work of these actors!  Congratulations, Eagles Performing Arts Company!

Go Eagles!
