Please Take This Leader in Me Survey

Our district is gathering leadership data about our school using the MRA survey from Franklin Covey. While the link may say “Leader in Me,” this survey is a leadership measurement tool not specific to “leader in me.”  There is a separate survey for students, staff, and families. This gives us a chance to get feedback from various stakeholders in our school community.  It should only take about 10 minutes to complete. The survey must be completed by May 15, 2026.

It’s that time of year again! FREE physical day for East Henderson is May 12, 2026. This is a great way to ensure student-athletes have a physical for the whole year without worrying about it expiring!

Be sure to pick up a physical packet from the front office or from the athletic training room to prepare for this day. The first 2 pages (front & back) of the physical packet must be completed BEFORE you come on May 12th.

You must pick up the physical packet from the office or the athletic training room to ensure you have the correct forms for the 2026-2027 school year.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Athletic Trainer Audi Mendoza at ammendoza@hcpsnc.org!

Last week, WHKP honored our very own HCPS CTE Teacher of the Year, Mr. Rollins, as this week’s Hometown Hero. His interview focuses on why CTE classes are so important to students’ futures and how FFA builds a surprising set of leadership skills. We are very proud of Mr. Rollins – an EHHS hero every day.  The full interview can be accessed using this LINK.

East Henderson has a lot of community support, and we can’t make it without the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and partners. One great partner to East for many years is Pat Shrader, owner of Blue Ridge Expressions. For the second year in a row, Pat graciously gave up his time to come have a photo session with our senior Exceptional Eagles to get some great images for their senior banners for Special Olympics. This donation was so special, and our three Eagles got to have their banners unveiled in front of the whole school at our pep rally in their honor last week. They are displayed proudly on the home side bleachers at E.L. Justus Field for all to see.  Thank you, Pat, for continuing to support East High!

On Monday, Innovative High School hosted the 2nd annual Student Leadership Summit for student leaders from each of our HCPS high schools to come together to learn and share about leadership. East took about 30 student leaders to this event, which included opening and closing keynotes from community leaders, breakout sessions hosted by each school, and fellowship and team building with leaders from across the county. We are thankful for IHS and all the planning and effort that went into this event.

On Thursday four of East’s Student Ambassadors joined students from the other HCPS high schools to participate in the Building Languages program, made possible through a Henderson County Education Foundation grant. These bilingual student leaders attended an Introduction to Interpretation 101 workshop with trainers from True Ridge. They expanded their speaking skills, explored ethical questions, and even got to practice using simultaneous interpreting equipment. Student Ambassadors have shared their expertise this year by supporting newcomer students and interpreting for family events at East, Flat Rock Middle, and feeder elementary schools. If you’re bilingual and interested in being involved next year, email Ms. Abarca.

East High once again hosted the Henderson County Special Olympics on Friday, April 24th. The opening ceremony is always special, and we love being able to have our student body out in the stadium with us to celebrate every athlete participating from all over the county. The EHHS choir performed the National Anthem, and the band performed to get the crowd excited. Coach Brackett also announced the event, and many of our students volunteered throughout the day as buddies and in any other capacity needed by Special Olympics staff. We are so proud of our athletes from Mr. Reed & Mrs. Youngblood’s classes, who had an amazing day!
