  • Students will be able to sign in to see their eligibility and fill out their simplified applications starting Sept. 30, 2024, on the NC College Connect portal.

This week’s Eagle of the Week is Ms. Carrillo. Ms. Carrillo started Homecoming Week strong by supporting our Dairio Spirit Night on Monday and finished it strong by doing an amazing job emceeing the pep rally on Friday. Every day when students pass her in the hallway, she always has a smile on her face and will always say hello. We love you, Ms. Carrillo!

To kick off Homecoming Week, we hosted a Dairi-o Spirit Night to raise money for East High, and we piggy-backed this event with an Alumni Welcome event.  Alumni were able to enjoy old yearbooks, mingle with fellow alumni, meet current students from East, and enjoy a delicious meal.  We are pleased to announce that we raised over $500 thanks to all of you who attended Spirit Night and made a purchase.  We are so grateful to Dairi-o and to our greater Eagle community!

This year, we began a new tradition for Homecoming Week – our Ro Sham Bo contest!  Students and staff were all playing spirited games of rock, paper scissors all over campus all week long to try to earn the most beads.  Four students and three teachers who had the most beads competed Friday at the pep rally for the grand prize, and junior Dalton Halford took home the trophy!  This was a great addition to the festivities last week, as it promoted unity and brought unlikely pairs together for the sake of school spirit.

East students getting ready to welcome our feeder schools Slowpoke! show opening on stage
On Thursday & Friday, students from our four feeder schools – Atkinson, Dana, Hillandale & Upward – came to East to watch Flat Rock Playhouse Jr. perform the play Slowpoke!  It was an excellent experience for elementary students to see a performance on stage and to be in their future high school.

Walking around campus during Smart Period, anyone can see a wide variety of activities, learning environments, and opportunities for growth and connection.  Connecting with our principal, jarring their famous FFA molasses, hosting AIM Club, finding something silly to do in the library, working on an old tractor, powder puff practice, a jam session, and even enjoying a quiet moment with some seriously decked-out wheelchair wheels were just some of the things happening in our building last week.  We are so proud of the variety of offerings we have for all Eagles.
Marbella in booth
On Wednesday, our Eagles took on West on the soccer field and defeated them 2-1 for our HoCo en Espanol Night.  Marbella Salvidar Lopez was our fantastic announcer, who announced the whole game in Spanish as a part of the celebratory evening.  Thank you, Marbella!  Great work!
