General Reminders

  • Any absences over 5 for each class, regardless if they are excused or unexcused, must be made up in Academic Recovery or in Saturday School (May 18). Please make sure your child is diligently making up this lost instructional time well before the end of the semester in order to avoid losing credit for their classes. Recovery times are as follows:
    • Afternoon attendance recovery is held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15-4:15pm in the media center.
    • Morning attendance recovery is held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays beginning at 7:05am in the media center.  You MUST be at the Student Entrance between 7:00 and 7:05 AM in order to attend!
  • Check PowerSchool frequently to monitor both grades and attendance via Parent Portal.  Staying connected to your child’s progress is crucial to their success.  Having trouble with Parent Portal?  Contact Elaine Smith, Data Manager, for assistance by calling the school at 697-4768 and asking to speak with her.
  • Communicate regularly with your child’s teachers when you have a question or concern.  They can be reached directly by email, or using the School Directory linked in the top menu of the website.

Last Week in Eagle Country

Students looking at something Students, teachers and SELEE reps
Last week, a group of East students and teachers, led by student Kavya Patel, visited SELEE Corporation, a local manufacturer in Hendersonville.  The purpose of the visit was to celebrate SELEE’s donation to our East High science department of 10 brand new scientific calculators.  Pictured here are SELEE representatives, as well as Kavya Patel, Mrs. Wodzicki, Heather Wetzel, Mrs. Allman, and Landon Taylor.  In addition to the 10 calculators from SELEE, local company BorgWarner also donated 20 new calculators, completing the class set for the science department.  This project was student-led by Kavya for her Leave a Legacy Project.
Mr. & Mrs. Reed

Alyssa & Valerie

On Tuesday, the Henderson County Education Foundation hosted its annual Education Celebration at Jeter Mountain Farm.  There, our Teacher of the Year, Mr. Reed, was honored alongside the other TOYs from around the county.  Additionally, Teaching as a Profession (TaaP) students Alyssa Stepp & Valerie Sherlin got to attend as future educators and assist with the night’s festivities.  We are proud of all of these Eagles!
Top 15 on risers
Thursday evening, HCPS celebrated the Top Scholars from each of our district’s high schools, and our own Eagles were honored for their Top 15 in the Class of 2024 status.  These students are Riley Wilkie, Wyatt Taylor, Kavya Patel, Chloe Lively, Evie Holbrook, Raegan Edwards, Daniel Lajos, Lindsey Osborne, Adessa Fisher, Maddi Corn, Haley Heatherly, Connor Hunnicutt, Alex Bressler, Tanner Floyd & Ayden Sumner.  Congratulations, high flying Eagles!
Eddie pie in the face
Friday brought FCA’s last meeting of the year with guest speaker, BJ Laughter.  Part of the meeting involved a contest where the winner got to pie Eddie in the face.  He was a great sport!
Kyler delivering flowers to office

Friday was also the pre-sale for our annual FFA Plant Sale, where East High staff members got “first dibs” on the amazing plants our students have been growing to sell.  Pictured here is Kyler, delivering Ms. McMinn’s beautiful pink hanging plant.

Saturday brought our first annual Campus Clean-Up Day, planned and managed by student Kelly Moore and staff members Suzanne Meadows and Michael Bartley.  This effort was developed in order to spruce up our campus ahead of graduation on May 24th.  Students and staff volunteered their time to complete the work, which ranged from pressure washing to planting to painting.  We are so thankful for these Eagles!

On Friday, Mr. Smith’s English 4 classes had their final vocabulary session with their Bruce Drysdale buddies to conclude the year.  All semester, Mr. Smith has been taking our seniors to BDS to teach elementary students vocabulary.  Students develop the lessons and games to work with students.  As a grand finale, Mr. Smith drove the BDS students to East to have their final lesson.  As an added surprise, seniors wore their graduation gowns to create conversations about graduation and what’s next for them.  It was a beautiful end to these special mentor-mentee relationships and a great way to connect our HCPS Family!

Go Eagles!
