Good evening, Marlow Families!

I hope everyone is doing awesome today and hanging on to what is left of this summer (which isn’t much)!

This year, we are going to be using this new S’more Newsletter format for our Marlow Monday Messages, to celebrate the great things happening at GMES, as well as provide any additional school-wide communications through the year. We will tweak and make adjustments (if need be) so that our communication to you can be clear and concise as it relates to school happenings and events. We always welcome any feedback and hope that you enjoy!

In this week’s Marlow Monday Edition:

  • Kindergarten Orientation and Meet the Teacher

    • Kindergarten Orientation will begin at 1pm for Thursday, August 25th. Kindergarten Orientation for all our newest KI Buckaroos will begin at 1pm in the Media Center. There, parents will learn about “A Day in the Life” of a Marlow Kindergarten student, be able to meet their child’s teacher and see their room, get a tour of the school, have a Q & A with school administration, get bus information, and PSAM/PSPM information. There will be a whole group session first with a presentation from our KI teachers, and then we will break into smaller groups for the remaining parts.
    • “Meet the Teacher” for Grades 1-5 will be from 4 pm – 6 pm on Thursday, August 25th. Just like our KI families, bus information, PSAM/PSPM information, as well as some community outreach information will be available. “Blaze,” our beloved mascot, will also be in attendance! Catch up with Blaze for quick pic!
    • To top it off, Pelican’s SnoBalls will be on site, located at our new picnic shelter down by the cafeteria, selling snow cones! After visiting your classroom, come on down to get a sweet treat from Pelicans!
  • School Supply Lists

    • Class supply list can be found on our School Supply List webpage.
    • As in the past, it is allowed and encouraged that students bring their supplies to “Meet the Teacher” to be put away in the classroom so that students do not have such a big load on the first day of school.
  • How do you find our your child’s teacher for 2022-2023?

    • Class lists will be sent via email to parents on Tuesday, August 23rd at 6:30 pm. Please be sure to check your Spam folder if it does not originally appear in your Inbox. If you do not receive an email on Tuesday evening, please call the school Wednesday morning. We want to be sure we have the correct information in our PowerSchool system.
  • Shout-out to our Marlow Dads!

    • A big Marlow Shout-Out to an awesome group of Marlow Dads who came out on Saturday, Aug. 13th for a school beautification work day. From spreading mulch, removing low-hanging limbs, weed eating, and fixing up our GagaBall pit, they did an awesome job getting our campus ready for the new year!
    • Marlow Dads (New and Old): If you are not a part of this group and want to join in, send me an email (jehart@hcpsnc.org) and I will get you on the list. We have a great time! (and do more than just yard work…)
  • Check out our new 3-5 playground and picnic shelter!

    • We are so excited for our new 3-5 playground! Thank you Marlow parents!
  • Ident-a-Kid Visitor Management System is now live in the Front Office

    • All parents (including volunteers) will be required to sign-in at the Front Office through our new Ident-a-Kid system. All parents (including volunteers) will be required to have their ID with them to complete the sign in process. Whether signing a child in late, picking up early, volunteering at a party, here for lunch, or even a parent-teacher conference, all visitors use this new system in the front office.
    • Using this system will now require parents to “check out” after visiting or volunteering.
    • Parents: please be sure to bring your ID with you to the office, and in advance, thank you for your patience as we acclimate to this new system. Below is a picture of the Ident-a-Kid kiosk, located in the front office.
  • Resources for parents: How to help your child succeed from Day 1
    • This article has concrete advice for kids & parents, plus a very helpful checklist for parents.
