Reassignment Process

If you are interested in applying for your kindergartner’s assignment into Hendersonville Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year, you must complete the following steps:

  • Everyone must register their child for kindergarten in their designated school district even if requesting a reassignment to HES. This is required in order to be entered into the lottery. View the district’s Kindergarten Registration Information page for more information.
  • If your child has a sibling already enrolled at HES, you will be receiving information in your child’s red folder towards the end of February.
  • Submit a 2022-2023 Reassignment Request Form to Hendersonville Elementary School between April 1-April 30, 2022. Forms can be dropped off at the HES office or mailed to the school at 1039 Randall Circle Hendersonville, NC 28791.
  • Following a lottery that is conducted by HCPS Central Office staff in early May, HES school personnel will notify parents via letter and phone call whether their child was selected for reassignment to HES.

Students in grades 1-5 who are currently enrolled in another school or district and wish to be reassigned to HES, must also submit a 2022-2023 Reassignment Request Form between April 1-April 30, 2022. The same lottery procedures listed above will be followed based on space availability.

Kindergarten Readiness Rallies

Siblings of current HES students are invited to save the date for the kindergarten Cubcat Readiness Rally! You definitely want to plan to attend the entire event – it’s where you and your child will see our school, meet teachers and administrators, ask questions, and learn about kindergarten readiness skills families can practice at home. The Cubcat Readiness Rally for incoming kindergarten siblings will be April 7 from 3:15-4:00. Again, this event is strictly for our incoming siblings.

All other new kindergarteners should attend the rally of their home school district, even if families plan to make a request for transfer/reassignment to our school. To determine your home school district, call the HCPS Transportation Department at 828-697-4739. For more Kindergarten Registration information or to find out dates for other readiness rallies, visit the HCPS “Get Ready for Kindergarten” webpage.
