Henderson County Public Schools News

Good evening, Marlow families!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

As you have heard, September is Attendance Awareness Month. Through the first 3 weeks, Marlow Elementary students have averaged an attendance rate over 97%. That is outstanding! A job well done on all fronts– students, parents, teachers and staff– even grandparents! Keep up the great work. With a 4-day week ahead of us, let’s set our goal for over 98% this week. Everyone do their part, and know that every day matters.

Marlow families, are you up to the challenge? Results will be in next week’s Monday Message.

We have another warm week ahead of us, so please be sure students are bringing their water bottles to school and staying hydrated. If students need a water bottle once they get to school, we have plenty in the front office.

In this week’s Marlow Monday Message:

  • It’s Elementary Night at the West Henderson Football Game on Friday!
  • Marlow Spirit Wear link, now live!
  • Morning Car Rider Line help!
  • 2023 – 2024 HCPS Traditional School Calendar
  • Important Dates to Remember

Thank you for all you do!

With Marlow Pride,

John Hart

It’s Elementary Night at the WHHS Football Game!

An annual tradition, West Henderson High School will be hosting “Elementary Night” at their Varsity Football game this Friday, September 8th.

All Marlow Elementary students will get in free to game, and have the chance to run out onto the field before the game, just like the players! (Students and families will need to be there around 7 pm.)

Always a lot of fun, so make plans to come out to WHHS this Friday night!

Marlow Spirit Wear Link: Now Live!

The 2023 Marlow Spirit Wear link is now live!

Special thanks to Big Frog Custom T-shirts and More for their partnership.

We have recognized that the “Est. year” on some of the spirit shirts is incorrect, stating 1998. The correct Est. year is 1999, and Big Frog has assured us that no shirts will be printed with the correct year on it.

Order your Marlow spirit wear today!

2023-2024 Annual Public Notice

Parents, please view this year’s annual public notices. This document is also linked on the HCPS website, along with the Student Code of Conduct. I ask that you take a few minutes to review this document as it relates to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)

Media Opt-in/Opt-out

It’s time once again to indicate whether you want your child to be included in any media opportunities facilitated by Henderson County Public Schools. If you DO NOT want your child to be interviewed, photographed, or to have videos published on the HCPS website, social media, or district/school publications, including the Yearbook, you must complete the state standardized media opt out form through PowerSchool’s Parent Portal.

Specifically:

Answering “No” to the ParentPortal screening Question 1: “Do you grant permission to allow directory information for non-commercial purposes?” will exclude your child’s directory information (including name and photo) from use in all of the following:

  • School yearbooks
  • Media coverage of school activities/student awards
  • School/district newsletters
  • School/district social media
  • Published honor roll lists
  • Published graduation announcements and lists
  • StudentAccess library service through HCPS

Parents/guardians will be prompted to indicate their preferences in the Parent Portal at the beginning of each school year, and may update those preferences at any time. Parents/guardians without Parent Portal access should contact their school’s data manager to create a Parent Portal account, or complete the paper copy of the NCDPI screening questions.

Morning Car Rider Line Help

We are always in need of volunteers (both Moms and Dads) to help us with morning car rider line, ensuring that students get out of their car in a safe and timely manner, keeping the line running smoothly.
If you are interested in helping out, send me an email at jehart@hcpsnc.org, or, just show up and help out. We have a lot of fun!
