Good Evening Marlow Families!
We had an awesome day today welcoming back our Buckaroos, and meeting new ones! We saw lots of smiling faces, heard lots of giggles and laughs throughout the hallways, and even took in afternoon rain shower during our first car rider dismissal today.
We look forward to seeing the 2nd half of our Kindergarten families tomorrow!

Boo-Hoo/Ya-Hoo! Breakfast – Wednesday, August 16th at 8:15
The Glenn C. Marlow PTO welcomes all Kindergarten and other new parents to the BooHoo/Yahoo! Breakfast on Wednesday August 16th, starting at approximately 8:15 am in the cafeteria.
Sign in at the office and then join us for coffee and treats (and tissues if needed), learn about the PTO, meet other kindergarten and new parents, ask questions you may have about PTO or general questions about the school/kindergarten. We hope to see you there!

Student Chromebook User Agreement Information
Henderson County Public Schools is expanding its coverage and liabilities for our student Chromebook users in order to be able to have long-term sustainability in providing one-to-one access to a Chromebook each and every day. This school year, parents will need to read and agree to the HCPS Chromebook User Agreement along with having an opportunity to purchase insurance in case your student’s assigned Chromebook gets damaged or lost. Many of you did this last evening at Meet the Teacher, but in case you were unable to do so, the information is below.
Parents have until Friday, August 18, 2023, to read and agree with the User Agreement. You will also have limited time to purchase insurance to cover any damages or loss to your student’s Chromebook, so if you want insurance, you will need to do so in a timely manner. It is essential to know that all Chromebook users, regardless of insurance status, will be held financially liable for any damage to or loss of Chromebooks, whether at school or home.

Paper copies of the agreement will be available for you at the school’s front office. Thank you for your support.
A Note from Pam Livingston, our Child Nutrition Manager
Lunch payments can be made on our HCPS website by clicking on the Child Nutrition page under the Parents link, then click on the K12PaymentCenter link.
If sending in cash or check, please put it in a baggie with your child’s First and Last name on the bag. This will ensure that the money gets put into the correct account.
Ice Cream will be available again this year, but not until mid-September. Grade level schedule:
- K&1- Mondays
- 2&3- Wednesdays
- 4&5- Fridays.
All ice cream is $1.25.
Lunch overage letters/phone calls will be sent out at least once a week. Students may charge a lunch in case of an emergency.
Please fill out the Free & Reduced applications regardless if you think your household does not meet qualifications. This helps the school in so many ways.

2023 – 2024 Lunch prices / Universal Breakfast / Free and Reduced Lunch Forms
Universal Breakfast will continue this year for all students. All students will have the opportunity to eat breakfast in their classroom each day, free of charge. Students will order breakfast the day before, and get it when they arrive at school in their classroom. We do ask, if possible, that those students choosing the eat breakfast arrive at school before 7:45, so that they have time to eat before the 8:00 bell.
For 2023 – 2024, the price to purchase a lunch for K-5 students is $3.50. This is no change from last year.
Free and Reduced Lunch Forms
All students will be receiving a paper copy of the meal benefits application the first week of school. Families can also apply online at the School Lunch application website.
I encourage all of our families to apply for meal benefits, as your acceptance into this program helps you and provides federal dollars directly to Glenn Marlow Elementary School to help pay for teachers, tutors, and additional resources.

2023 – 2024 Annual Public Notice
Parents – Please click on the link below to view a copy of this year’s annual public notices. This document is also linked on the HCPS website, along with the Student Code of Conduct. I ask that you take a few minutes to review this document as it relates to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
Media Opt-In / Opt-Out
It’s time once again to indicate whether you want your child to be included in any media opportunities facilitated by Henderson County Public Schools. If you do not want your child to be interviewed, photographed, or to have videos published on the HCPS website, social media, or district/school publications, including the Yearbook, you must complete the state standardized media opt out form through PowerSchool’s Parent Portal.
Specifically:
Answering “No” to the ParentPortal screening Question 1: “Do you grant permission to allow directory information for non-commercial purposes?” will exclude your child’s directory information (including name and photo) from use in all of the following:
- School yearbooks
- Media coverage of school activities/student awards
- School/district newsletters
- School/district social media
- Published honor roll lists
- Published graduation announcements and lists
- StudentAccess library service through HCPS
Parents/guardians will be prompted to indicate their preferences in the Parent Portal at the beginning of each school year, and may update those preferences at any time. Parents/guardians without Parent Portal access should contact their school’s data manager to create a Parent Portal account, or complete the paper copy of the NCDPI screening questions.
GMES Spirit Night at Luv’s Ice Cream — Friday, Aug. 18th!
After a long week of school, come enjoy a sweet treat at Luv’s Ice Cream on the corner of Butler Bridge Road and Highway 25, and 30% of your total bill will come right back to support Glenn Marlow Elementary! We hope to see you there!
Morning Car Rider Line Help!
We are always in need of volunteers (both moms and dads) to help us with morning car rider line, ensuring that students get out of their car in a safe and timely manner, keeping the line running smoothly.
If you are interested in helping out, send me an email at jehart@hcpsnc.org, or, just show up and help out. We have a lot of fun!
