Henderson County Public Schools News
Due to the age of this article, the information below could be outdated or incorrect.

Good Evening Glenn Marlow families!
Happy Monday, and I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. One more workday for teachers tomorrow, and then we will see the kiddos on Wednesday.

Quarter #3 starts on Wednesday, and with that, new opportunities for our Buckaroos to show what they can do in the classroom! Everyone has been working really hard this year, so keep up the great work.

Saturday brought us our first glimpse of winter weather (although not much), and it served as a great reminder to everyone that as we get into the winter months, school may dismissed early, start late, or called off all together, in the event that inclement weather hits our area.

Be sure you are staying on top of the most current information by watching the local news, or listening to the SwiftK12 messages coming from HCPS.

Universal Breakfast (NEW!!!)

As you may have heard earlier this week, HCPS has expanded their Universal Breakfast program to all 23 schools in the district. That’s awesome! This means that now, breakfast is available to ALL Marlow students at NO CHARGE, no questions asked.

This initiative provides all students the opportunity to start their day with a nutritious breakfast, so as not to disturb their daily routine. While there are several logistic issues to work out over the next week here at Marlow, we hope that families will take advantage of this great initiative beginning this week.

Families have the opportunity to view breakfast and lunch menus for Marlow Elementary on the School Nutrition website.

If you have any questions about Universal Breakfast or our school Cafeteria, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Cafeteria Manager, Pam Livingston.

Marlow’s Got Talent! (NEW!!)

“Marlow’s Got Talent,” the one and only talent show for Marlow students, is on for 2023! Flyers were sent home last week, detailing information about practices, rehearsals, and show time.

If interested, please make sure that your child returns the flyer to Ms. Karen Whiting (4th Grade Teacher) no later than Friday, February 10th

Please contact Ms. Whiting if you any questions, or for further information. The tryout date is set for February 14th from 3 pm – 5 pm, with rehearsals on the 21st and 28th, and the Talent Show is scheduled for Friday, March 3rd at 6pm.

As always, we are looking forward to a great show our amazing, talented Buckaroos!

Inclement Weather and Remote Learning Day (NEW!!)

As we enter the winter months, so comes the threat of inclement weather, which can affect school operations on a day-to-day basis. If the threat of inclement weather exists, please be in tune to the morning local TV news, the HCPS website, or have your phone nearby for a message from HCPS, so that you can receive the message if schools are delayed or cancelled for the day.

In the event that we miss several consecutive days, a Remote Learning Day may be called for students, and they should work on their “Choice Boards,” which will be distributed to all students this Friday, January 20th. Please hang on to these Choice Boards by putting them in a safe place where they can be easily accessed, if need be.

A message from our PTO Co-President, Dawn Steed (NEW!!):

“Marlow Family, our PTO is so grateful for your eager participation in our fundraising efforts this year. As you know, last year we raised enough to purchase a new playground for our 3-5 grades, and after months of waiting, it was installed just before school started! We also purchased new walkie-talkie radios for staff needs that will arrive soon and replace older models.

Our efforts this year focus on the needs of our amazing teachers: our specials teachers and tech that our classroom teachers need. With funds raised at our October Pumpkin Lighting event, we ordered a large fan for our gym that is en route, and we hope to have it installed before large gatherings in the gym this spring. Won’t we all appreciate a bit of relief from heat? Do you enjoy seeing your kids perform? We are finalizing a choice to purchase risers for performances by all grades!

And as we look forward to our Annual Fun Run Derby, coming up in April, we want you to know that our teachers are researching the interactive teaching tools they need in their classroom so that we can upfit their rooms and help them do what they do best! Be on the lookout for Fun Run Derby information in coming months!

We love Marlow, and we are thankful for your involvement with this school community!”

Middle of Year (MoY) Assessments

Middle of Year assessments continue this week with iReady diagnostics (ELA and Math; K-5) mClass/RtA assessments (ELA; K-3). Student attendance remains very important during this week and these times. If your child needs to be absent for any reason (i.e. quarantine, out-of-town, sick, etc.), please let their teacher know so that adjustments can be made and make-ups can be scheduled during this assessment period.

Thank you for your help with this!

8:00 am Start time

Attention morning car riders! As a reminder, our tardy bell rings at 8:00 am (school time). Although you may be unable to hear the bell ring from inside your car when going through the line, a blue sign is put out on the sidewalk indicating that the 8:00 bell has rung.

If you see the blue sign out on the sidewalk, parents must park and walk their child in to sign them in tardy. This becomes a safety issue when students are left out on the sidewalk with no staff member present. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation with this.

One More Call for ’22-23 Marlow Yearbooks!

The deadline is quickly approaching to order your 2022 – 2023 Marlow yearbook. This year, we are using Jostens as our yearbook publisher. The cost right now for a yearbook is $25, and it will increase to $30 beginning January 27th, so order yours today!

Yearbooks can be purchased at the Jostens yearbook website.
