Good evening, Glenn Marlow families!

Happy Monday evening! I certainly hope all of you had a great weekend, the first full weekend of 2023. We are back in full swing this week, with middle of the year assessments hitting full stride, beginning tomorrow. I am so proud of our students and staff, and how hard they have worked to this point. As we wrap up the second quarter this week, we want to remind parents that there is no school for students on Monday and Tuesday next week (January 16/17). We hope you enjoy the long weekend!

Middle of Year (MoY) Assessments

This week we really get cranking with MoY assessments, with our 3-5 students taking Q2 NC Check-Ins, and our K-3 students beginning Read to Achieve (mClass) assessments. Student attendance is very important during this week and these times. If your child needs to be absent for any reason (i.e. quarantine, out-of-town, sick, etc…), please let their teacher know so that adjustments can be made and make-ups can be scheduled during this assessment period.

8:00 am Start time

Attention morning car riders!  As a reminder, our tardy bell rings at 8:00am (school time). Although you may be unable to hear the bell ring from inside your car when going through the line, a blue sign is put out on the sidewalk indicating that the 8:00 bell has rung.

If you see the blue sign out on the sidewalk, parents must park and walk their child in to sign them in tardy. This becomes a safety issue when students are left out on the sidewalk with no staff member present. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation with this.

One More Call for ’22-23 Marlow Yearbooks!

The deadline is quickly approaching to order your 2022 – 2023 Marlow yearbook. This year, we are using Jostens as our yearbook publisher. The cost right now for a yearbook is $25, and it will increase to $30 beginning January 27th, so order yours today!

To order the yearbook, go to the Jostens website and follow the directions.

Marlow Spirit Day – 80’s Day! This Friday!

This Friday, January 13th, is the 83rd day of school, and we want to show our Marlow spirit by dressing like they did in the 80’s! Neon colors, pony tails, blue jean jackets, or vintage t-shirts/sweatshirts, all are encouraged to dress like they did in the 80’s! (Parents, we know you still have all those clothes around…)
Bring it out, and show your Marlow 80’s spirit!

Attention Marlow K-Kids!

From Ms. Clark, co-sponsor of the Marlow K-Kids: “The Marlow K-Kids will be meeting Tuesday, January 10 and Tuesday, January 24 this month. A calendar for the second semester will be sent home on January 10. Thanks so much.”

Attention 4th and 5th grade girls and parents!

Attention parents/guardians of our fabulous 4th and 5th grade girls: it’s Girl Power time! That’s right…we’re back! On Friday, January 27 from 4:45 – 8:30 our STEM Committee is hosting an evening of empowerment for our girls. We will begin by having dinner together (a taco bar). While we eat, we will have the all female leadership team from HiViz LED Lighting talk with our girls about working in the various STEM fields. Participants will then participate in 3 rotations that focus on building confidence (we have an all female crew from Henderson County Sheriff’s office teaching our girls some self defense skills), encouraging creativity (Girls will design and build their own “Girl Power” sign, thank you Board and Brush!), and increasing STEM awareness (participants will create and build their own Glowing Valentine).

This event is limited to 45 participants. The cost is $50. This covers dinner, supplies, and a t-shirt. Individuals with inquiries regarding need based scholarships and/or any questions should contact Stephanie Patton, slpatton@hcpsnc.org.

Please complete the Girl Power Registration along with making the payment by January 11 to ensure registration.

See the Girl Power flyer for more information.
