Good Evening Glenn Marlow Families!
Happy Halloween! We had a great Monday today on this “Halloween” Monday, and you could tell students were excited for the evening festivities! We hope all of our Buckaroos, young and old, stay safe and responsible tonight if you are out trick-or-treating. Have fun!

A big Marlow “Thank you!”

What a tremendous night we had last Thursday for our annual Pumpkin Lighting Festival. Thank you to all who came out out to enjoy the food, games, the hayride, and fun. More importantly, congratulations to our Raffle Basket winners!

Most importantly, a special “thank you” to the Marlow PTO for putting on such an awesome event. These ladies put so much time and energy into the evening, and it paid off!

Dawn Steed, Shanda Zachman, Kristen Moore, Brandi Pilgrim, Katie Myers, Lindy Hall, Amanda McCall, Jillian Biggs, Patty Saunders, Shelley Sprague, Amber Jenkins, Lori Hayden, and Stephanie Hamill, just to name a few… There are so many more contributed.

Thank you also to the Marlow Dads for running the fire pits and s’mores, and North River Farms for providing the tractors and hay ride.

A community effort for sure… Thank you all!

Art by Me Fundraiser – Extended!

The Art by Me fundraiser, supporting our Arts Program here at Glenn Marlow Elementary, has gotten an extension! The deadline has been extended to Thursday, November 3rd. You can help help us reach our goals and get some great keepsakes for yourself and gifts for the family.

Please remember to order online this week! Reach out to Mrs. Graham with any questions at idgraham@hcpsnc.org.

BackPack Bunch donations

Marlow Families, as you may know, the Marlow Backpack Bunch sends supplementary food home to food students/families in need each weekend, and we’d like to boost supplies of these staple items that they receive:

  • Mac and cheese
  • Ramen
  • Chef Boyardee cans
  • Fruit cups
  • Applesauce (both pouches and cups)
  • Instant oatmeal packets
  • Granola bars
  • Fruit snacks

As needs change throughout the year, we may update this list, but this list can be repeated regularly at your discretion. Donations can be dropped off in the front entrance vestibule in the red wagon.

Thank you so much for helping us spread the word of these easy and needed foods!

Second Step Child Protection Unit

Second Step Child Protection Unit (SSCPU) is an HCPS approved program that educates children around topics of personal safety. This includes: personal safety, touching safety, and assertiveness.

Above all else, you are the most important part of your child’s team, and you have the choice to either “opt-in” or “opt-out” of this program. We encourage families to use the link provided in the permission forms coming home to get more information about what your child will be learning in the program.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Rachel Malmgren, our school counselor, at 828-654-3225.

Q1 Report Cards

Q1 Report Cards will be made available this week on Thursday, November 3rd, through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please take this time to look over it with your child, celebrate their successes, and have conversations with them where they may need improvement. We are very proud of all of our Buckaroos, and want each of them to achieve success here at Glenn Marlow. Please remember that Q1 grades are not final until Thursday, November 3rd.

If you are having trouble viewing your child’s grade in the PowerSchool Parent Portal, please call Jo Pittman, our Data Manager, here at the school at 654-3225. If you would like to request a paper copy of your child’s report card, please contact his/her teacher.

Stay healthy, everyone!

As with a lot of schools right now, we are seeing quite of bit of sickness and absenteeism. Students, please continue to take the appropriate measures to stay healthy by frequently washing your hands, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and refrain from sharing food, drinks, and other items with your classroom peers.

Parents, if your child is sick, please keep them home to prevent the further spread of germs. Please notify the school of their sickness, so that we can code the absence correctly in PowerSchool. Thanks so much!

Its a bird… It’s a plane… No, It’s Lost and Found!

With these chilly mornings and warm afternoons, our Lost and Found is growing exponentially!

We ask students frequently to please make sure that they are keeping track of their jackets, sweat shirts, hats, water bottles, and everything in between during the course of the day.

Parents, best practice is to be sure that your child’s name is written somewhere inside the clothing. Parents are free to come anytime to look through our Lost and Found, located by the Gym entrance. Thanks so much for your help.

School Breakfast and Lunch Forms

A reminder: parents, please do not forget to turn in your Free and Reduced lunch forms, if you see fit. Not only do these forms provide eligible families free and reduced breakfast and lunches, but they also help secure federal funding for our school to help pay for teachers, tutors, and instructional resources for our students.

Just visit the Lunch Application website to apply. The link may also be reached through the HCPS website, click on the Apple “Menu” icon, choose “Home” click on “Meal Applications” icon and then click on the Lunch Application icon. Even if you know that your child will never eat a school lunch, completing this application will of great assistance to our school.

Thank you in advance for your help!
