This past week, we completed our second round of NC Check-Ins. Ā These are new for us in the past two years and replace what have previously been called Benchmarks. Ā It is important that students do their best on these, but their purpose is NOT about student accountability. Ā Rather, this is an opportunity for teachers to see what students know and donā€™t know, allowing us to adjust instruction to better meet the needs of all students. Ā Please feel free to ask questions about this process if you have them. Again, we want students to do their best, but this should not be added ā€œtestingā€ stress for students.

We are now officially half-way through this school year. Ā Please check your studentā€™s updated 1st semester report card. Ā If you need a printed copy, ask your studentā€™s teachers for a printed copy. Ā If you have questions or concerns about your studentā€™s progress, please contact his/her teachers for clarification and to generate a plan for success for the second semester.

In early to mid-February, tryouts will be held for Spring Sports. Ā Inform your students and parents about this and the need to come on the first day with a physical (if they donā€™t already have one on file). Ā Below are the links for specific sport teamsā€™ websites.

At this point, we have no update on calendar adjustment to address the missed day on January 29. Ā I will pass that along when I hear something.

On Friday, February 15, 2019, the West Henderson High School JROTC will host a Valentine Dance from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Ā Since that day is a noon dismissal, the dance will begin promptly after dismissal, and will end at 2:00 pm. Ā More information on ticket pricing and purchase will come later.

We are all fortunate to be a part of the Rugby family. Ā The teachers and staff at our school work really hard to provide students a productive and positive experience. Ā From custodians to cafeteria staff, teachers to bus drivers, office staff to counselors, this staff cares about our students and wants them to succeed. Ā Raider Pride is alive and well; we hope you feel it, too!
