2023-24 6th Grade Academy

Henderson County Public Schools News

Dear Sixth Grade Students and Families,

I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you and your family as you begin the next chapter of your educational journey at Hendersonville Middle School. We are thrilled to have your family become part of our Bearcat school community, and I am confident that together we will make your middle school years fulfilling, engaging, and memorable.

Middle school is a critical time in a student’s life, and we understand the importance of a smooth transition. Rest assured that we have designed a comprehensive orientation program, the HMS 6th Grade Academy, to familiarize your child with our school’s policies, procedures, and expectations and to help your child feel comfortable and connected to HMS from day one. The HMS 6th Grade Academy is a student-only event for rising 6th graders on Thursday, August 3rd from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Parents may drop off students between 8:00 and 8:30. We strongly encourage you to make every effort to have your child attend.

During the HMS 6th Grade Academy, students will meet their Becoming Bearcats Mentor, an 8th grade student who serves as a role model for a small group of 6th grade students. Students will engage in games, activities, and a pep rally to bond with their peers and mentors. Students will receive their schedules, learn about school procedures and expectations, and explore ways they can become involved in extracurricular activities. We will provide lunch for students.

Students will also learn their locker number and combination during 6th Grade Academy. We encourage you to send your 6th grader with their school supplies which will stay in their lockers to be ready to use for the first day of school, Monday, August 14th.

For the parents or guardians of our 6th graders, we invite you to the Meet the Teacher event at 5:30 PM in the gym on Thursday, August 10th. Please email hendersonvillemiddle@hcpsnc.org or call the office at 697-4800 if you have questions.

At Hendersonville Middle School, we are Bearcat Strong because we are one team and one family. We look forward to an exciting year filled with growth, discovery, and achievements. Together, we will create a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment where your child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Best regards,

Principal Joni Allison
