Dear Sixth Grade Families and Students,
We want to make your transition to middle school as smooth as possible. To help with this transition, the HMS 6th Grade Academy, a student-only event for rising 6th graders, will occur on Thursday, August 18th from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Please mark this date on your calendar and make every effort for your child to attend to help your child start the year successfully. There will be a mini-field day so please bring a water bottle and dress appropriately.
During the HMS 6th Grade Academy, students will meet their Becoming Bearcats Mentor, an 8th grade student who applied and was chosen to serve as a role model for a small group of 6th grade students. Students will engage in field games, classroom activities, and a pep rally to bond with their peers and mentors. Additionally, 6th grade teachers and mentors will give students their schedules and Chromebooks. We will provide a cookout lunch for students.
Students will be assigned a locker during 6th Grade Academy. Please send your 6th grader with their school supplies. Here is this year’s school supply list. These supplies will stay in their lockers to be ready to use for 6th Grade Academy and the first day of school.
For the parents or guardians of our 6th graders, we invite you to the Meet the Teacher event at 5:30 PM in the gym on Thursday, August 25th.
