Dear Parents,

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new and returning families of Mills River Elementary School.  Did you know that if your child attends Mills River School you are automatically considered a Member of the PTO?  The PTO is a parent volunteer organization that supports the school by organizing volunteers for various programs and by providing financial assistance through fundraising for cultural and enrichment programs, computer software and other items not available through school funds. Our mission is…

… to enhance students’ educational and extracurricular experiences through academic and social activities, open communications, and fundraising to encourage a positive, supportive atmosphere and to build and strengthen relationships among the students, parents, teachers, and citizens of the Mills River community.

We have planned many exciting activities and opportunities to raise money for this year, and we hope you will join us in becoming an active part of the Mills River PTO.  Be sure to return your volunteer form to your child’s teacher so we can be sure to get a hold of you when volunteers are needed. We would like to make an important note about our fundraisers. There will be several different types of fundraisers throughout the year, and it is our hope that no one feels pressured into participating in all of them. Some fundraisers such as the Fall Fundraiser through Great American and our new fundraiser, Boosterthon, coming this February, bring in the majority of our funds. The other fundraisers we offer are an opportunity for us to bring Mills River families products they would not normally have access to, such as Spirit Wear and Smencils (for purchase in the office), or products at a reduce cost by purchasing them through us, such as the Asheville Tourists tickets and Chick-fil-A calendars (also for purchase in the office). Please, choose what works for you and your family.

Fridays are the school’s “Show Your Spirit” days. We encourage the students to join the staff in wearing their school colors, red, blue, and white. The PTO has a Spirit Wear sale at the beginning of each school year, so every child can have the opportunity to show their school spirit at a reduced cost.
