Face-to-Face Learning & Transportation Intent

With three weeks of remote learning complete, district leaders have never stopped planning for the day we welcome students back on campus under Plan B – and your answers to our phone calls this week were incredibly helpful!

In early June, the HCPS Re-Entry Task Force developed frameworks for delivering education under Plans C, B, and A. In July, the School Board voted to have HCPS “Return to Learn” under the fully remote Plan C model for the first 6 weeks of the school year. All throughout, the Re-Entry Task Force has continued to build on each model based on updated health data, emergent logistics, and family feedback, preparing for transition between plans throughout the school year.

Families’ plans to send child(ren) to school for in-person instruction and their transportation needs were specifically gathered this week through phone calls and emails to establish an important data set. These numbers will directly inform the logistical elements of the hybrid face-to-face and virtual learning (Plan B) recommendations HCPS leaders present to the Board of Education on Tuesday. Tune into the live stream of the board meeting by visiting at 4 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Thank you to all our families who helped shape this next step in our Return to Learn!

Child Nutrition Services

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Monday that it will extend its flexibility of the waiver established through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. This waiver flexibility applied to the National School Lunch Program allows public school districts nationwide to operate under the summer nutrition programs through December 31, 2020 – instead of transitioning to the National School Lunch Program with its traditional meal costs.

This means ALL children ages 2-18, regardless of “Paid,” “Reduced” or “Free” status, will now be able to receive meals from the HCPS Child Nutrition Department at no cost through the end of the calendar year – just like in the summer months!

To view current Remote Feeding Menus, families can visit the HCPS Child Nutrition menu site, filter to a school site serving meals using the grade level dropdown and school name dropdown menus, then select “Remote Feeding Menu.” Grab-and-go pickup locations are listed in the “Child Nutrition Services on Plan C” Google Document.

Child Care Services

HCPS continues to offer its all-day Child Care Services at Fletcher, Hendersonville, Mills River, and Sugarloaf elementaries to the public as spaces are available. As of Wednesday, Sept. 2, there are 10 spaces available for 4th-5th grade students across all locations. Check the R2L: Auxiliary Services webpage at for specific location availabilities.

Cost: $125/week
Time of Service: 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
How to Register: Call 828-891-2363 for the required packets

The district’s PSPM after-school Child Care Services at these 4 sites are operating under limited capacities for children ages 5-12 from 3-6 p.m. for $14 per day, per child. Capacities are evaluated daily, and families can add their names to the Child Care Waitlist (Plan C), also linked at
