Health And Safety

In each of our schools and office buildings, we are busy preparing for the new school year. That means our employees are preparing in accordance with the governor’s orders, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC ) and Henderson County Department of Public Health recommendations to make sure our schools are healthy places to work and learn.

To that end, HCPS is currently requiring face coverings inside our school buildings when 6-foot social distancing isn’t possible. Our coaches, athletic trainers, and other coaching staff have been wearing face coverings since June 22, when HCPS began its Return to Athletics: Phase 1.

Student Learning

On Monday, July 6, HCPS families received a survey asking for input about a range of issues regarding Henderson County students’ Return to Learn. The survey, in both English and a Spanish version that’s translatable to any language, is available in a banner at the top of the HCPS district website. The final day for parents and guardians to submit their valued input is tomorrow, Friday, July 10, so please take a moment to share your feedback.

Remember, we are still operating our summer feeding program through August 7, providing free meals to children ages 2-18 at our two public feeding sites and “Meals On the Bus” mobile sites. For a full listing of hours and locations, check out our post on Summer 2020 Meal Resources.

Community Resources

On Wednesday, July 8, the Henderson County Education Foundation sent a survey to local business and nonprofit partners to gather information about available resources to support remote learning and other potential student needs once school begins. We’ll be sharing these family supports in future editions of R2L Weekly and on the Return to Learn webpage. In the meantime, if your family has an immediate need please reach out to your child’s school to be connected to resources. Families can also reach our ESL Family Liaison at 828-388-2632.

All “R2L Weekly” issues are archived on our R2L: Communications page.
