Marlow Monday Message, September 20th, 2021

Henderson County Public Schools News

Good evening Glenn Marlow parents and students, this is John Hart with your Marlow Monday Message on this Monday, September 20, 2021.

For this week’s “Marlow Shout-Out,” we would like to welcome all of our new Marlow Staff members for the 2021 – 2022 school year. Already this early in the year, these new members of the Marlow family have made a tremendous impact on our students and our school. We are fortunate to have them a part of our family! Please welcome the following new staff members:

  • Ms. Peyton Flowers, Resource Teacher;
  • Ms. Lisa Pierce, EC Instructional Assistant;
  • Ms. Ivy Graham, Art Teacher;
  • Ms. Stacy Witte, Quarantine Support Liaison;
  • Ms. Kelli King, Occupational Therapist;
  • Ms. Karen Brown, Child Nutrition Assistant
  • Ms. Taylor Feimster, School Social Worker

Welcome to the Marlow Family!

Also, a big shout-out to all of those that made the trip to Barnes and Noble on Saturday, or shopped online for the GMES Spirit Day. You all rocked it! Initial reports coming back from B & N informed me that it was one of their most successful Saturday Book Fairs they have ever had! Thank you all for participating! And speaking of more GMES Spirit? Our next GMES Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A in Hendersonville (Highlands Square) on Tuesday, September 28th from 5 pm – 8 pm. Plan your dinner out that night, and we hope to see everyone out at Chick-fil-A!

Here is this week’s Marlow Monday Message:

  • It is hard to believe that 1st Quarter midterms will be distributed / made available this week, Thursday, September 23rd. K-2 students and parents will receive a paper copy of the midterms, and 3-5 students will have their midterm available online through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please take this time to talk with your child about his or her academic progress, your plans for continued success, upcoming class assignments, and strategies to improve performance as we prepare for your child’s achievement throughout the year. Grades 3-5 parents, if you are having trouble logging into the Parent Portal, please contact Jo Pittman, our “new” Data Manager, here at school for further assistance.
  • Continuing at Glenn Marlow this year, and extended to all our Buckaroo families, is an initiative called the Marlow Backpack Bunch. Through the generosity of local churches, organizations, and parents, this anonymous program is designed to assist families who could use some extra help with food for their children on weekends. Food bags go home with your student each Friday. If you would like your child to receive food from the Backpack Bunch please fill out this Backpack Bunch sign-up form or contact the school as soon as possible. Once submitted, this form is sent to the school counselor, Rachel Malmgren, and is kept completely confidential. Thank you!

– Don’t forget! The 2021 Marlow Spirit Wear link is now live, and ready for consumers! Special thanks to Big Frog Custom T-shirts and More for their partnership. Order your Marlow spirit wear today!

Here is news from last week’s message:

  • Student Chromebooks: as stated in a recorded message that was sent out several weeks ago, we are asking families to review the expectations for the usage and care of HCPS Chromebooks. There is no annual technology fee, but damages to these district-issued devices will result in fees ranging from $20 to $40, depending on the severity of the damage. If a Chromebook is repeatedly damaged, the student user will no longer be allowed to take a device home, but will still have access to a loaned device during school hours. Lost or totally destroyed Chromebooks will result in a $250 replacement charge. You can find more details about Chromebook damage fees in the HCPS Student Code of Conduct, which is on our school’s website or at the Henderson County Public Schools website under the “Students” drop-down menu.
  • As a reminder, our amazing Marlow PTO has also set up an Amazon Smile account for the Marlow PTO. As the online shopping season is always running in full swing, you can shop on Amazon Smile (I mean who doesn’t, right?), register the Marlow PTO on Amazon Smile account, and a portion of your purchases will go directly to the PTO!  Sign up with your Amazon account today, and thank you for supporting our school!

Stay safe and healthy everyone. Thank you, and have a good evening. JHart
