Henderson County Public Schools Clear Bag Guidelines
Beginning Monday, August 17, Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS) will implement clear bag guidelines at district facilities during middle and high school extracurricular events, including athletic competitions, performances, concerts, and other ticketed or school-sponsored events.
As a leader in school safety, this procedure is designed to enhance the safety and security of students, staff, families, and community members.
Approved Bags
Guests may bring the following items into extracurricular events:
- Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC tote bags no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags
- Small clutch purses or wallets no larger than 4.5″ x 6″ (approximately the size of an adult’s hand)
- Seat Cushion 18” x 18” max (no pockets larger than 2”)
Exceptions
The following items are permitted:
- Medically necessary items
- Diaper bags accompanying an infant or toddler
Prohibited Items
Guests may not bring bags or items that do not comply with these safety measures. In addition, any item deemed inappropriate, hazardous, or unsafe by event staff is prohibited inside district facilities.
Examples of prohibited bags include, but are not limited to:
- Backpacks
- Duffel bags
- Large purses
- Drawstring bags
- Tote bags that are not clear
- Coolers
Other Prohibited Items
The following items are not permitted inside district facilities during extracurricular events:
- Alcohol
- Weapons of any kind
- Illegal drugs
- E-cigarettes, vaping devices, and tobacco products
- Outside food or beverages
- Artificial noisemakers
- Pets (service animals as defined by law are permitted)
- Skateboards, Scooters and Bikes
HCPS reserves the right to prohibit any additional item that is deemed unsafe, disruptive, or inappropriate by event staff.

Where does this safety measure apply?
The guidelines apply at middle and high school extracurricular events held at Henderson County Public Schools district facilities, including athletic competitions, performances, concerts, and other designated school-sponsored events.
Do these guidelines apply to athletes?
No. The clear bag guidelines apply to spectators and event attendees. Student-athletes participating in an event are not subject to the clear bag guidelines and may bring the equipment and bags required for participation in accordance with school and team procedures.
What if I have a medical need or an infant?
Medically necessary items and diaper bags accompanying an infant or toddler are permitted but may be inspected upon entry.
What happens if I bring a bag that is not permitted?
Guests who arrive with a bag that does not comply with the HCPS Clear Bag Guidelines will not be permitted to bring the bag into the event. They will be asked to return the bag to their vehicle or remove it from the premises before entering. Henderson County Public Schools does not provide storage or bag check services for prohibited bags.
