Marlow Monday Message, May 25th, 2020

Henderson County Public Schools News

Good evening Glenn Marlow parents and students, this is John Hart with your Marlow Monday Message on this Monday, May 25th. We hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend, and from all of us at Glenn Marlow Elementary, we say “thank you” and honor all servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives to bless our lives with peace and joy. We honor those brave men and women for their spirit and love for our country. Because of their service, we are indeed the land of the free, and the home of the brave. Thank you!

Here are this week’s news and notes:

  • As stated in the Community Update you received on Friday and the phone message on Sunday evening, we will not be collecting student Chromebooks the week of June 1st – 5th unless you are withdrawing from Glenn Marlow Elementary and Henderson County Public Schools. For those families, there will be a bin out front (marked by two orange cones) where materials can be placed. We are working on our plans to collect other materials (e.g. library books, completed work, other belongings) as well as return student belongings for the week of June 1st – June 5th. Again, more specific information will be coming out this week. Stay tuned.
  • “Drive-thru” graduations have been set for our Kindergarten and 5th grade students. Parents, please mark your calendars:
    • Kindergarten Drive-thru Graduation: Wednesday, June 3rd, 11 am – 1 pm
      • Last name A – L: 11 am – 12 pm
      • Last name M – Z: 12 pm – 1 pm
    • Fifth Grade Drive-thru Graduation: Thursday, June 4th, 10 am – 12 pm
      • Last name A – L: 10 am – 11 am
      • Last name M – Z: 11 am – 12 pm
  • Although we are bummed that we cannot have our traditional graduation ceremonies, we are so excited for our graduates, and are looking forward to celebrating with them in this unique way! We do ask that all KI and G5 students and parents abide by these guidelines to ensure a smooth event:
    • Students and families need to arrive sometime in the window of time provided according to the first letter of their last name.
    • Students and families will remain in their car at all times. Blended families may have two vehicles. Please have the student sit in the rear passenger seat for a photo opportunity we have planned.
    • Only cars, trucks, SUVs and family vans will be permitted.
    • There can be no gathering or waiting for others while on school property.
    • Any student with transportation or safety concerns should contact the school to discuss other options for picking up their recognition materials.
  • Thank you for you cooperation with this. We look forward to a unique celebration!!
  • And yes…the 2020-2021 Kindergarten registration is still live! Please visit the HCPSNC website or our school website to access the online registration. You may also access it by going to the HCPSNC Kindergarten Registration website. This online form can be accessed by smartphone or computer, and parents will be asked to upload required documents, i.e. birth certificate and proof of residence. If you are unable to complete this at home, we do have a KI Registration Chromebook set up at Marlow in the main hallway, including sanitizer and wipes to keep everything clean. If you need any help completing this form, please do not hesitate to call the school (828) 654-3225.
  • Thank you to all who submitted videos for the 2020 Marlow Virtual Talent Show. The Talent Show will premiere on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7 PM.

Thank you for all that you do. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at jehart@hcpsnc.org if you have any questions or need additional support. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

JHart
