Marlow Monday Message, May 18th, 2020

Henderson County Public Schools News

Good evening Glenn Marlow parents and students, this is John Hart with your Marlow Monday Message on this Monday, May 18th. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Although it feels like we are in Week 87 of the Learn from Home model, in actuality, we only have three weeks of school left! Hang in there, you are almost there! Thank you for the amazing job that you are doing. We appreciate all the work our students and parents are putting in to make the “Learn from Home” initiative a successful one.

Here are this week’s news and notes:

  • Last call! Video submissions for the 2020 Marlow Virtual Talent Show are due by Friday, May 18th. The 2020 Marlow Virtual Talent Show will make its premiere on Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:00 pm. Stay tuned for more information!
  • As stated in the HCPS Community Update you received on Friday, this week is the last week of formal assignments for students in the Learn from Home model. This week and thereafter is a great time for students to complete any missing work or assignments, and teachers will still be available via Google Meets and/or Chats for students to remain engaged and connected till the end of the school year. To the delight of all G3-G5 students and parents, there will be no state EOG or district assessments for this year. Yay!
  • We are working on our plans to collect materials (e.g. Chromebooks, library books, and other belongings) as well as return students belongings for the week of June 1st – June 5th. Stay tuned for more information.
  • “Drive-thru” graduations have been set for our Kindergarten and 5th grade students. Parents, please mark your calendars:
    • Kindergarten Drive-thru Graduation: Wednesday, June 3rd, 11 am – 1 pm
      • Last name A – L from 11 am – 12 pm
      • Last name M – Z from 12 pm – 1 pm
    • Fifth Grade Drive-thru Graduation: Thursday, June 4th, 10 am – 12 pm
      • Last name A – L from 10 am – 11 am
      • Last name M – Z from 11 am – 12 pm
    • Stay tuned for additional information and directions as those dates get closer. Although we are bummed that we cannot have our traditional graduation ceremonies, we are so excited for our graduates, and are looking forward to celebrating with them in this unique way!
  • And yes, the 2020-2021 Kindergarten registration is still live! Please visit the HCPS website or our school website to access the online registration. You may also access it by going to the Kindergarten Enrollment website. This online form can be accessed by smartphone or computer, and parents will be asked to upload required documents, including birth certificate and proof of residence. If you are unable to complete this at home, we do have a KI Registration Chromebook set up at Marlow in the main hallway, including sanitizer and wipes to keep everything clean. If you need any help completing this form, please do not hesitate to call the school (828) 654-3225.
  • Just a reminder to all parents that there is no school for students or staff next Monday, May 25th, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. We hope all of you enjoy the long weekend.

Thank you for all that you do. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at jehart@hcpsnc.org if you have any questions or need additional support. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

JHart
