Marlow Monday Message, November 13th, 2017

Henderson County Public Schools News

Good evening Glenn Marlow parents and students, this is John Hart with your Marlow Monday message on this Monday, November 13th.  I hope everyone enjoyed their Veteran’s Day weekend.  From all of us here at Glenn C. Marlow Elementary School, we thank to say ‘thank you’ to all of our Veterans for your service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country.  We truly appreciate you for all that you have done and continue to do.  Thank you.

This week, in our “Marlow Moments of the Week”, we want to highlight our ‘Day of Change’, which brought in several hundred dollars for Blue Ridge Honor Air and our Veterans.  On that day, 3rd and 4th grade students listened to Korean War veteran Hilliard Staton, and we finished off our week recognizing over 200 3rd-5th graders for A-A/B Honor Roll.  Our Marlow K-Kids traveled to the Brian Center on Thursday to fill bird feeders and hand out Thanksgiving cards.  It was a great trip, and much appreciated by the residents of the Brian Center.

Here is this week’s news and upcoming events:

–This Thursday is Thanksgiving Thursday in our cafeteria.  We are inviting KI, 1st, 2nd, and Ms. Alexander’s class parents to join us for Thanksgiving lunch. Once again parents, if you plan on attending, please return a completed form back to your child’s teacher no later than Tuesday, Nov. 14th.  We hope to see you there.

—This week is Scholastic Book Fair at GMES.  Our theme this year is Wild West Book Fair.  Students will be visiting the Book Fair during their Library time at Specials.   The Book Fair is open from 7:45 – 4:00 each day this week. Please join us tomorrow night, Tuesday, Nov. 14 for Family Night, from 5pm – 7pm.  There will also be theater performances from our kindergarten students as well, titled “Maidy and Manny Mouse Go To The Zoo.”   We hope to see you there.

-While you are here this week, don’t forget to visit the Lost and Found.  This time of year, our lost and found grows by leaps and bounds because of the cold mornings and warm afternoons.  Please check to see if any articles of clothing belong to your family this week.  Thank you in advance.

– This week and next, we are collecting toys for the WNC Toys for Tots Toy Drive.  We will be collecting toys for those in need this holiday season through Nov. 21st.  The class that brings in the most $10 or less unwrapped toy wins a pizza party!  Two donation boxes are located outside the front entrance, just please be sure to label the toys with your child’s teacher.  Thank you for supporting Toys For Tots!!

– Here is our Week 3 Turkey Trot food drive Update: 460 of our 600 requested items have been donated so far! That is awesome!! Here are our donation totals as of November 9th…Kindergarten and Pre-K – 64 items, 1st grade – 121 items, 2nd grade and Mrs. Alexander’s class – 107 items, 3rd grade and Ms. Taddei’s class- 64 items, 4th grade – 90 items, and 5th grade-14 items. This is the last week of our Holiday Food Drive.  We will send Thanksgiving food home with students next week and before our two week Holiday break. If you still wish to donate items and are not sure what to send, the items we could use the most for our Holiday Bags are Instant Stuffing Mix, Instant Potato Mix (pouches or boxes), Cookie/Brownie Mix (pouches are fine) and canned vegetables.  Let’s reach our goal of 600 items donated!  Thanks again for your kindness!

Thank you for all that you do to help make Glenn Marlow an Amazing school. Have a great night.  #WeAreMarlow
