Resources for iPods and iPads

As more iOS devices are becoming part of our daily lives, we wanted to provide you with some information to assist you in using these tools to support your instruction and professional growth.

iPad Training Guides & Curriculum Resources

Procedure for Ordering iPads or iPods (Student Use, Cart/Case/Tray Purchases)

  • Ensure you have consulted the HCPS iPad Purchasing Information page.
  • Complete a Hardware Approval Request online.  Once approved, proceed with your purchase order for the device(s). Please have all iPads delivered directly to the Mills River Academy. All carts or trays MUST  be delivered to the school site.
  • A syncing station, MacBook and device covers (for iPads only) should also be purchased.  Click for vendor and detailed product information. If printing from the devices is desired, an approved printer must also be purchased.
  • DO NOT setup an iTunes account for a cart/tray.  The Technology Department must do this for you. It is essential that you not use personal or individual iTunes accounts on iPads from a cart or tray.
  • A designated Cart Manager should be appointed.  This person must sync the devices on an as-needed basis and is responsible for downloading free or pre-purchased applications (provided by the school’s Program Facilitator). The Cart Manager will be trained in the proper techniques for syncing and maintenance by the Technology Department.
  • To download pre-purchased or free applications, the designated account MUST be used.
  • It is the Cart Manager’s responsibility to back up all purchases, applications and device content.

Procedure for Ordering iPads or iPods (Individual Staff Use)

  • Ensure you have consulted the HCPS iPad Purchasing Information page.
  • Complete a Hardware Approval Request online.  Once approved, proceed with your purchase order for the device(s).  Please have all iPads delivered directly to the Mills River Academy.  Click for detailed product and vendor information.
  • Using your HCPS email address, set up your iTunes account.  It is recommended that you set up the account without a credit card, which takes specific directions.  Please use this Individual iPad Setup Guide.
  • To download or purchase applications, your HCPS  iTunes account must be used. When accounts are tied to individuals, any purchased applications will be lost if the individual leaves the district.
  • If you choose to use Volume License Vouchers for your purchases (which provide cheaper prices when 20 or more are purchased), you must contact the Technology Department to establish a Program Facilitator for your site. (Failure to set up volume purchases correctly may result in loss of your voucher’s value.)
  • It is the user’s responsibility to back up all purchases, applications and device content by syncing to a designated workstation. You will find directions in the Individual IPad Setup Guide above.

Procedure for Ordering iPads or iPods (Student Use, Non-Cart/Non-Tray Purchases)

  • Student devices are managed by an iTunes account created by the HCPS Technology Department.  Personal and individual accounts may not be used on student devices.
  • To download or purchase applications, this account MUST be used. Personal iTunes accounts are not allowed, because when accounts are tied to individuals and not district-provided accounts, any purchased applications will be lost if the individual leaves the district. Therefore, district-provided accounts must be used for all iTunes syncing and downloading to student non-cart/non-tray iPads.
  • If you choose to use Volume License Vouchers for your purchases, you must contact the Technology Department to establish a Program Facilitator for your site. (Failure to set up volume purchases correctly may result in loss of your voucher’s value.)
  • It is the user’s responsibility to back up all purchases, applications and device content by syncing to a designated workstation.

Procedure for Requesting Apps for iPads and iPods for Carts

Contact your school’s Program Facilitator to assist you in purchasing your apps. If applications are free, contact your school’s Cart Facilitator to assist you in downloading the applications to the devices. Failure to consult the school Program Facilitator or Cart Facilitator may result in loss of applications. It is PROHIBITED to enter a personal Apple ID or any other Apple ID than the one that manages the cart into iTunes on the computer managing the carts/trays.
