October is Career Month at Fletcher Elementary and Mrs. Garren, our counselor, works with our students to think about what they want to do when they grow up. Students do various activities throughout the month to encourage them to think about careers they would like and the education they will need to achieve their dreams.
The culminating event for the month is our annual Career Day, where people from the community volunteer their time to talk to our students about their jobs. The day begins with a career parade and all of our students who are dressed for a career walk throughout the building to the cheers and applause of students, teachers, parents, and community members. Our third through fifth grade students then interview volunteers with careers that fit their interests and our younger students get to view the displays and ask questions as well. Our students learned from a pilot, engineers, nurses, stylists, an athletic trainer, law enforcement officers, a dance teacher, chefs, and many more!
We could not do this without the support of so many people and are truly grateful to all the businesses who allow their employees this time to spend with our students. We are already looking forward to Career Day 2018!
