On Friday, March 3, business volunteers from our community led all 21 classes for “JA in a Day”. These volunteers taught our students the five sessions of Junior Achievement curriculum, which are aligned with our NC Social Studies standards. The lessons focused on financial literacy, workforce readiness, and entrepreneurship. The lessons were interactive, games based and age appropriate.
Robin Payne, the JA Regional Director, said, “Volunteers have materials that engage the youth in lessons about the importance of saving money, needs vs. wants, how businesses work, how communities work, and how they can have any future they can dream of if they work hard enough. We love being a part of the classroom experience and are thankful to Fletcher Elementary and the Fletcher Community Fund (a program of the Henderson Community Foundation) for financially supporting our efforts.”
Volunteers at our “JA in a Day” represented the following businesses: United Federal Credit Union, Hubbell Electric, Western Southern Life, AmeriLife Insurance, AVL Hotel Associates, Mountain Credit Union, Woodforest Bank, NC Department of Public Safety, First Citizens Bank, and Fun Depot. Community volunteers will be representing the Hendersonville Kiwanis Club and the Asheville Downtown Rotary Club.
