Cara Brock, a 1st grade teacher at Hendersonville Elementary, won a Be Inspired Grant from the Tryon Fine Arts Center, to build a “maker space” that will encourage her students to think like artists and inventors. She is one of more than a dozen educators from North and South Carolina to receive TFAC’s Be Inspired Grant for the 2018-2019 school year.

With awards of up to $500, Be Inspired Grants  encourage multi-disciplinary projects which integrate art into the curriculum in creative ways. According to the TFAC, the grants support dedicated teachers who might otherwise purchase educational supplies with their own personal funds or be unable to provide the arts experience.

The award ceremony in August was a celebration of past projects, a chance to share ideas among colleagues, and an opportunity to recognize the innovative work happening in Carolina classrooms and the teachers inspiring young minds.

BIG is made possible by Duke Energy, Gannett Publishing, Kiwanis Club of Tryon, Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation, TD Bank, and Tryon Daily Bulletin.

Tryon Fine Arts Center is a part of the Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, designed to assist arts organizations throughout the nation to develop or expand educational partnerships with local school systems.
