HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 17, 2018) – School calendar updates, district news, and student grades are all at the tip of parents’ and students’ fingers, thanks to the new HCPS Mobile app launched today.

Tailoring the user experience to student, parent, or staff member, the app provides push notifications, district and school-level news, access to school menus and payment portals, district academic calendars and school event calendars, and resources including forms, district policies, the Student Code of Conduct, and links to resources serving children and families. District and individual school social media platforms are also seamlessly integrated into HCPS Mobile.

Users can control which push notifications they receive, including general announcements, weather-related information, transportation announcements, early release reminders, and calendar updates. Similarly, users can customize the app by adding specific schools to their “My Schools” list, keeping them directly connected to their school communities through school-specific news, social media, and push notifications.

Through HCPS Mobile’s integration with the PowerSchool Mobile App and the K12PaymentCenter, parents and guardians can easily access their children’s grades and attendance, or add funds to student meal balances. The app also interfaces with the Here Comes the Bus and Report It, Don’t Ignore It mobile apps, making HCPS Mobile a one-stop shop for all district, school, and student information.

As with the “Report It, Don’t Ignore It” threat reporting safety app launched in July, Henderson County Public Schools opted to develop the app in-house, as opposed to contracting with a school system app developer.

“We wanted to make sure that the HCPS app was made specifically for the HCPS Family, and included the features our students, families, and staff would want,” said Superintendent Bo Caldwell. “By having our talented programmer, Grant Adkins, create it in-house, we can control the interface and update features in the future more easily than if it had been contracted out.”

The free app is available for download from the App Store and Google Play Store.
