HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (May 1, 2018) – Community members are invited to observe and experience some of the latest technology available in Henderson County Public Schools’ classrooms at the Technology & Innovation Fair held Thursday, May 3, with a drop-in from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Blue Ridge Community College Conference Hall.

Presented in partnership with the Golden LEAF Foundation and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, the Technology & Innovation Fair will showcase students and staff from elementary, middle and high schools, as they share innovative practices in our district. For example, teachers will share how video has empowered student voice in their classrooms, how invention kits and school “maker spaces” spark creativity and provide hands-on learning opportunities, and how apps can turn test reviews into a game.

Visitors can talk to students about their digital learning projects, check out the school system’s robotics team in action, experience virtual reality, and more.

Interested citizens and corporate partners are encouraged to drop by and get a glimpse into the world of technology-rich education that includes critical thinking and problem-solving, and involves engineering and design principles.

“Our students are innovators, and this Technology and Innovation Fair allows them – and their teachers – to share what and how they’re learning, said Dr. Jan King, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction. “We look forward to showing the community our students’ and staff’s enthusiasm for learning, and the real-world, applicable skills being taught in our schools.”
