What in the world is a Bearkitten?

Bear Kitten

Bearkitten is another name for a Binturong, a mammal from southeast Asia. It is listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Like a cat, Binturongs have rough tongues and retractable claws.  Like a weasel, it has a long tail and is very fast! In fact, the name Binturong  comes from the Greek words for cat and weasel! But like a bear, the Binturong’s body is stocky and low to the ground. Plus, our Bearkitten also has a prehensile tail that holds onto the trees it lives in, just like a monkey!

So the Binturong is actually a cat-weasel-bear-monkey, but we call it the Bearkitten for short.
